Discipline founded by Sensei Minoru Akuzawa, bujutsu Aunkai can be considered as the art of forging the body, of optimizing it so that it can move freely whatever the constraint which is opposed to it.
Repeating the basics over and over again allows for a deep and subtle journey into the “arcane” of body structure and movement optimization.
In Bujustu Aunkai, we do not accumulate technical knowledge, the body becomes the technique.
In this sense, this discipline is also an excellent way to correct structural and morphological disorders which by extension have an action on our physiology and our psychology.
Some practitioners even consider it an “osteopatic” discipline.
The basic exercises of Bujutsu Aunkai(Tanren) allow us to become aware of our own tensions and body imbalances.
Through repetition, the body enters the “ forge “. It warms up, tones up, relaxes. Thus more malleable, like the piece of steel passed through the forge to create the blade of the Katana, the body will over time become more efficient, denser, thus optimizing its capacity for inertia and mobility.
The exercises practiced with a partner(Kunren) allow to test the abilities generated by the Tanren. The weight of the partner, his density, his intention, his morphology are all parameters that allow us to refine and correct our posture.
Tanren and Kunren are also practiced with the help of a Rokushakubo. This long, heavy and dense stick is a uncompromising corrector of our alignments and our body axes. It also brings to light our unnecessary tensions and helps us to dilute them. With a partner, it is a direct link to the opposite body structure.
In Bujutsu Aunkai, the body stretches, is becoming more vertical, lines up, connects. We are not talking about combat techniques, but aboutbody optimization.
The practice of applications is an essential component of Bujutsu Aunkai. They engage the body and mind in a more free and martial context, allowing us to test the principles and develop our ability to adapt to the constraints in the moment.
